The opaque ruby/plum-hued 2022 Gigondas Jugunda is 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah (partially destemmed). It’s a powerful, structured barrel sample with lots of darker plum and blackberry-like fruit as well as notes of graphite, pepper, and crushed stone. It’s clearly outstanding, but I think the cellar will be your friend on this one. Give bottles 2-4 years to soften and develop more complexity, and it should keep through 2037.
